System administrator (sysadmin)

Our NOC and R&D departments are a fanatic group of nerds, from expanding server hardware to maintaining Serverius its own data center infrastructure servers, and services like EuroStack, and Qbine. For almost every task they have the supporting software that is running on our own physical hardware in our own data centers. All hardware is physically hosted within the Serverius data centers. The software can be existing open-source software or custom-built. All software runs on a growing number of servers, VMs, and containers. Therefore, we’re looking for new a colleague to join the R&D and NOC departments to manage and improve our entire Linux server fleet.

Your work will be supporting both the R&D and NOC departments. Besides daily maintenance and making improvements to all current systems, you can also participate in new projects and upcoming services.

At Serverius we are a group of ambitious and excellent engineers. This fanatic environment will encourage you to develop yourself during your career. Serverius facilitates this by offering you time and the environment and of course all materials and courses to improve your skillset. In addition, you are a real self-starter. Our motto is: Google is your friend, and your colleagues are near. Together we produce new products and services. We focus on the world of today where sustainability is paramount. For example, we are currently working on a new data center electricity platform that will offer better energy pricing for our customers.

The job in a nutshell:

  • Although you are allowed to sit every day in the office, you probably like to work from home. You can choose your own equipment, such as a laptop, mobile, etc. Daily video call standups keep you in contact with your colleagues, and one day every 2 weeks you will go to the office or restaurant to meet your colleagues in real-life. You can squeeze them to see if they still exist! 😉
  • Officially your working contract tells you to work “full time”, 40 hours per week. But as an official nerd, you will like to play, study, and communicate with others about your passion. You do your own research when you don’t know something and you know how to make the material your own.
  • You’re skilled with Linux (Redhat-like and Debian-like). Therefore, installing packages, setting up a firewall, and adjusting config is not a challenge for you, although there are always new things to learn.
  • Ansible is your friend because a large part of the servers is managed by it. This knowledge and skill are required to run, create, and modify the playbooks.
  • Your basic networking knowledge will be enough to communicate between the Serverius NOC and R&D department. Configuring a simple network switch and securing a server at IP level is no problem for you.
  • At Serverius you can still actually touch the servers where you are working with. Therefore, you can swap some CPU/drive/mainboard, and you are able to order new hardware yourself.
  • Additionally, it would be nice (but not required) if you have (some) experience with Proxmox, Netbox, OpenStack (or another platform), or Ceph. If not, you have the intention to learn them over the years.
  • An important point is your own character. This is of great importance. The current team consists of eccentric, quiet, socially rich/poor engineers. At Serverius, all engineers have their own colorful personality, which is respected by everyone in the group. With respect for others, you have a strong opinion of your own, and you feel comfortable in a working environment where you can tell others (up to the CEO) that you do not agree, and that things really have to be completely different.

Of course, you probably have way more skills than only the ones above. Or if not, when you have only a limited skillset and you want to learn it in the upcoming years, it’s also not a problem. At the moment there is room for an experienced and a starting engineer. You can show this in a first video call with some of our engineers.

General vacancies notes

Therefore we improve our services on a daily basis.
  • All technical engineering Jobs are full-time, 5 days a week. Although the default working weeks consist of 40 hours, sometimes you are required to work outside of these default hours. When you work unexpectedly more than 8 hours a day, all extra hours will always be compensated the next day. Simply because we want to keep all people healthy for more than only a few years.

  • Serverius is a 100% Dutch company, and most of us speak Dutch. Although English is the official language within the company, we understand you could not a native speaker. • Everyone has a personal sports budget per month. With this, you can pay for your gym, any sports club, or join your personal sporting event.
  • If you are from outside the Netherlands it is no problem to work at Serverius. The company Serverius is an official IND-registered “knowledge migrants” company. With this permission, we are able to hire people outside Europe and help them to get an apartment near the office.
  • A healthy working environment is offered where everything is done not to burn people out. Serverius therefore does not like people who consciously harm themselves by, for example, smoking.
